Toronto Wilderness Canoe Symposium: Pike's Portage

Cover for Pike

Saturday, February 6, 2010 - 9:00am

Monarch Park Collegiate Institute

1 Hanson Street
Toronto, ON M4J 1G6

Outdoor enthusiasts won’t want to miss Morten Asfeldt and Bob Henderson’s discussion and signing of Pike’s Portage: Stories of a Distinguished Place at the 2010 Wilderness Canoe Symposium. Hear the stories of those who have crossed the infamous Canadian trail used by explorers, adventurers and thrill seekers alike.

The stories of the people who have struggled over Pike’s Portage at the edge of the Barrens in the Northwest Territories are many and varied. They include: sports hunters Warbuton Pike and Ernest Thompson Seton, surveyors Guy Blanchet and the Tyrrell brothers, a long line of trappers such as Gus A’Doust, explorer George Back and the eccentric John Hornby, among others.
