Dundurn is pleased to announce that Nipissing: Historic Waterway, Wilderness Playground by Françoise Noël has been nominated for the 2016 Louise de Kiriline Lawrence Award, to be awarded in mid-August, 2016.
Administered by the Ontario Library Service – North, this is an award that recognizes Northern authors.
The Lake Nipissing area is best known as a voyageur route between the Ottawa River and Georgian Bay visited by explorers, missionaries, and fur traders. All of these travellers, however, were on a journey elsewhere. Nipissing focuses on the less well-known story of the area’s transformation into a tourist destination between 1875 and 1955.
Françoise Noël is a professor of history at Nipissing University. Through her photography and by visiting local scenic spots she has became intimately familiar with the Nipissing area. Françoise is the author of Family and Community Life in Northeastern Ontario. She lives in North Bay, Ontario.
