Dundurn is saddened to learn of the passing of James A. "Pete" McGarvey, a legendary figure in the Orillia community. Among McGarvey's notable achievements in community involvement was leading the charge to restore Stephen Leacock's Orillia summer home, The Old Brewery Bay, in the 1950s. He also co-founded the Mariposa Folk Festival in 1961.
As well as having a five-decade-long career in broadcast journalism, McGarvey was the author of The Stephen Leacock Picture Book and The Old Brewery Bay, and recently wrote the foreword for Daphne Mainprize's 2011 book Stephen Leacock's Mariposa. He was eighty-six years old. Dundurn wishes to extend our condolences to his family and his community.
